Who we are

At Black Girl Narrative, we are more than an organization; we are a collective devoted to telling the stories that shape and sustain Black women’s lives. Through storytelling, research, and advocacy, we create spaces that honor our histories, amplify our voices, and reimagine what belonging can look like. Our mission is grounded in the lived experiences of Black women, challenging systemic inequities while celebrating our creativity, care, and complexity. Every project we lead is a reflection of the power of story to move culture, build community, and remind us that we have always been the authors of our own narratives.

Our Story

Black Girl Narrative was born out of both love and urgency, a love for the stories Black women carry and an urgency to protect, honor, and amplify them. Our work began with a simple but powerful truth: Black women’s stories have always held the blueprint for survival, creativity, and change. For too long, those stories were erased, misrepresented, or dismissed. Black Girl Narrative exists to reclaim, preserve, and expand them.

We were created from the belief that storytelling is not just expression. It is structure, care, and strategy. It is how we make meaning, build community, and imagine futures that center us. With a foundation rooted in research, advocacy, and creativity, BGN is dedicated to:

- Creating cultural spaces and storytelling projects where Black women’s voices can exist in fullness and authenticity.
- Elevating narratives through art, research, and collective storytelling.
- Partnering with organizations and artists who share our commitment to joy, truth, and justice.
- Offering tools, language, and opportunities that help communities turn story into advocacy and care.

Our story is not only about what has been lost but also about what we are building together. We are creating a future where Black women’s voices are not simply heard but honored as cultural legacy. Every project we lead is an act of restoration and possibility.

Our Approach

At Black Girl Narrative, our work is centered on four foundational pillars

01

Research:

We document and analyze the ways Black women’s narratives are shaped, erased, and reclaimed. Our research is a foundation for advocacy, ensuring our stories are preserved, studied, and used to challenge systemic inequities.

02

Advocacy:

We use our collective voice to push for cultural and policy shifts that protect and uplift Black women’s stories. Through digital campaigns and public engagement, we demand space, accountability, and systemic change.

03

Storytelling:

Our narratives are history, resistance, and truth. We create space for Black women to tell their own stories—unfiltered and unchallenged—through digital media, personal narratives, and creative expression.

04

Community Building:

Black Girl Narrative is more than a platform—it’s a living archive and a collective. We cultivate spaces of connection, care, and collaboration, ensuring that Black women find sanctuary, support, and strength in one another.
