What We Do
We don’t just tell stories. We study them. We hold them. We build with them.
Black Girl Narrative is a cultural research and storytelling platform rooted in the lived experiences of Black women. Our work sits at the intersection of research, narrative, and cultural production, creating space for Black women to be seen in full.
We are interested in what is said, what is felt, what is remembered, and what is often left out. We build work that documents those layers in real time.
This is not content for consumption.
This is narrative work that shifts how Black women are understood, remembered, and supported.

WHAT WE DO

Black Girl Narrative exists to document, study, and amplify Black women’s lives with intention and depth.
Our work moves across research, storytelling, and digital space to create a living record of how Black women are navigating the world right now. We are not responding to moments. We are building something that holds over time.
We create work that:
- translates lived experience into language
- connects personal stories to structural realities
- builds archives that do not disappear after a post or a trend
- builds archives that do not disappear after a post or a trend
At its core, this is about creating space where Black women do not have to reduce themselves to be understood.
CORE WORK

HOW TO WORK
WITH US
We are intentional about how we collaborate. Every partnership aligns with our mission, values, and the communities we are accountable to.
We are not interested in surface-level engagement. We are interested in work that is thoughtful, grounded, and built with care.

Research and Strategy Partnerships
We collaborate with organizations, institutions, and funders who want to better understand and support Black women in ways that go beyond assumptions.
This work may include:
- Co-designing research projects
- Developing a narrative and communication strategy
- Translating research into reports, campaigns, or public-facing work
- Offering insight into the audience, community, and cultural context
We bring both research depth and narrative clarity. The goal is not just to gather information, but to make meaning from it in ways that can be used.
Creative and Storytelling Collaborations
We partner with artists, writers, and cultural workers to build narrative-driven work that reflects the complexity of Black women’s lives.
This may include:
- Collaborative storytelling campaigns
- Editorial features and Substack contributions
- Visual and audio storytelling projects
- Co-created archive work
We approach collaboration as co-creation, not extraction. The work should feel aligned, intentional, and reflective of everyone involved.

Archive Contributions
Black Girl Narrative is a living archive shaped by Black women.
We invite Black women to contribute their stories in ways that feel real to them. This can include written reflections, voice notes, or short narratives.
Selected contributions may be featured across:
- Our digital archive
- Storytelling campaigns
- Visual and audio projects
This is not about performance or perfection.
It is about documenting what is real.
Speaking and Thought Leadership
We offer select speaking engagements, panels, and conversations that align with our work and values.
Topics may include:
- Digital harm and misogynoir
- Storytelling as research
- Visibility, identity, and digital space
- Building narrative infrastructure
We prioritize spaces that foster depth, reflection, and genuine conversation.

Who We Work With
We work with people and organizations who understand that this work requires care, time, and intention.
This includes:
- Black women are always at the center of the work
- Cultural institutions and creative spaces
- Research organizations and academic partners
- Funders and philanthropic partners
- Artists, writers, and cultural collaborators
We are not the right fit for work that prioritizes speed over care, visibility over substance, or extraction over relationship.
Our Approach
Our work is grounded in a few core commitments.

We center Black women fully.
Not as case studies. Not as trends. As people with full lives, histories, and interior worlds.
We move at the pace of the work.
Not the pace of the internet or external pressure.

We believe storytelling is infrastructure. It shapes what gets remembered, what gets funded, and what gets changed.
We hold complexity.
We do not reduce Black women’s experiences to make them easier to understand.
